Corey Powers Killed Without Motive

Corey Powers was working hard at repairing his car on the side of the road. It had just broken down despite the purchase of a new battery and alternator. Despite this, Corey, a hard working business-man and family man, refused to call a tow. His step-daughter, Deanna, claimed that he was intent on fixing the car himself then and there. Such a decision would have been strange if Corey’s car hadn’t broken down on the end of the street his step-daughter lived. All was normal when Deanna left to pick up her daughter, but upon later returning, things took a drastic turn. Corey was found shot on the side of the road.
When investigators prompted the family to recall anyone Corey may have had an altercation with, they came up empty handed. Not only did Corey’s family state that he had no enemies, but the community did too. The consensus was that Corey was far too kind-hearted, easy going, and hard-working to have anyone despise him. However, Corey’s lack of enemies made the case far more difficult than originally perceived. In many instances, suspects and motives come from people who disliked the victim. Those with a reason to enact some form of revenge, to eliminate another human being, or simply lash out in anger. Whether it’s getting back at someone who received a promotion, murdering the person your spouse is cheating on you with, or righting some perceived wrong there’s almost always a motive. But, unfortunately for Corey’s family, no motive or suspect was ever found. Ironically, it seemed, that Corey’s lack of enemies would halt justice in its path.
With little facts to go off, Corey’s family was left wondering who in their right mind would murder a nice, caring, and loving family man just trying to fix his car. And if it wasn’t some undiscovered enemy of Corey’s, why would anyone kill without reason? Let alone someone they didn’t know? The only true theory, though it too lacks facts, is that the freak accident occurred when Corey was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone else was meant to be there instead of him. And the killer, whoever they were, killed the wrong person and not their intended target. Nevertheless, the case remains open and as confusing as ever with many unanswered questions still hanging over head.
Why kill Corey Powers of all people? Why a man without enemies? But most importantly, who pulled the trigger, and what was the motive?
